This entry is for whose haven’t been to any yoga classes,
but others might find useful tips too
So the first and most important thing is take it easy! There’s a first for everyone.
Second, if you have any health condition or pain tell the teacher before class. You even forget it because that’s obvious for you, but for the teacher it’s really important.
Don’t stress on your practice, because then it won’t really be relaxing, right? So try to be ok with practice, let go your wanting or fears. I know it’s a hard work, but it’s totally worth it. And of course try not to be obsessed with the letting go part either. Yoga means union and you have to find your balance within your practice – for that you have to experience both ends tho.
Yoga requires a long long long time of practice, it’s more like ‘about the journey’ kinda thing, and wherever it takes you, that’s good.
How to prepare for the class
- don’t eat 3-4 hours before class:
Yoga is best practised with an empty stomach. Therefore it’s easier to move, you feel lighter and the process of digestion won’t be interrupted.
- don’t drink 20-30 mins before class:
It’s really disturbing when your thoughts wondering away but if you have to go to the bathroom your thoughts will definitely wonder away ad it’s just uncomfortable.
What to bring
- comfortable clothing in which you’re able to move freely
- your mat if you have
- small towel for you hands, face and some poses might require it
- if you have sweatier palms and soles a big towel can come handy to put on your mat
- bottle of water for hydration after class
- sweater or something you can wrap yourself during the relaxation at end of the class
After class
- make sure you drink enough during the rest of the day
- having muscle soreness in weird places is ok
- for avoiding or recovering quicker from soreness eat food with high level of Mg (dark green leafy veggies, bananas etc)
- increased hunger after the first few yoga classes is again normal. you might use muscles you haven’t used before and it could be a weird experience for your body. Fear not, it will pass.
